USATODAY.com - Study: More housing markets called overvalued

Filed under: Real Estate — Kerry @ 7:18 am

So, Bend is in the overvalued news once again. Unfortunately this study, like the last, only takes into consideration appreciation vs. income. It’s true that most folks take a pay cut to move to Bend. The average person is bringing a ton of cash out of California real estate and buying their Oregon home free and clear. My point is, as long as that continues to happen appreciation vs. income really doesn’t matter. Now, if something happens to the California real estate market, that could be a much different situation.

End of the World

This is really just weird, but I didn’t want to lose the link.

Interesting company….

Filed under: Business — Kerry @ 7:14 am

Logoworks.com has been around for some time, and although I’ve never used their services, I’ve always thought they had a wonderfully interesting business idea. This WSJ article I ran across on their site provides a little more depth into how they do what they do.

I would love to use their services. Think I would go Platinum package. My current dilemma is thinking of a name for my next business start-up. It’s a gift-basket company that creates branded gifts for corporations and benefits developmentally challenged adults. I’m just stumped, so I’m taking suggestions.

Salsamatic

Filed under: Misc. — Kerry @ 10:39 am

I still think there is real potential for a commercial fresh salsa maker in the product section of every grocery store. If you look at wholesale prices vs. retail product, we’re talking about a machine that can take $0.99/lb materials and turn it into $8.99/lb product. The machine could make Hot, Medium, Mild and Pico de Gallo. The smell of fresh salsa would be marketing enough. I’m thinking of experimenting at home with a machine like this. Doesn’t look like it would do the Pico, but maybe it’s the right process for the rest.

Transitive Property of Relationships

Filed under: Business — Kerry @ 12:28 pm

Sometimes in business you come across a couple of people that just can’t get along. They try…or at least they say they do….and for whatever reason, it just never works out. I’ve been dealing with such a situation this morning, and it’s allowed me to come up with a new theory. It goes like this:

If A can get along with B, and C can get along with B, then A and C can find common ground….they each just need to act more like B.

More Wal-Mart fun….

Filed under: Business — Kerry @ 7:03 am

Just had to post about this great article from Dr. Charles Wheelan. One of the comments I got from an earlier Wal-Mart post was, “How about us taxpayers picking up the slack for those low wages?…” Well, as Dr. Wheelan points out, that’s OK. If there is a standard of living that we would like to guarantee our citizens, then we should pick up the bill. Not push the responsibility onto some one’s business, and certainly not chastise them for not wanting to pick up the slack on their own.

I hate it when that happens….

Filed under: The Web — Kerry @ 5:08 am

Recently I’ve started watching this Mad Money on CNBC with Jim Cramer. Really interesting investment show (if not a little disturbing). Jim runs around the stage ranting out sage stock advice while various sound and screen effects fire off.
The other day I watched a stock he heavily endorsed shoot up 15% at the bell the next day. Now I’m watching him closely, however, I’m not always in a position to catch the program.
No problem. A good guy at PFBlog.com captures the information that Jim spots every night and places it on his blog. Better yet, it’s all archived. So I’m able to take a walk down memory lane and evaluate some of the calls this guy has made in the past.
Wouldn’t you know it…I read this post this morning. CNBC and NBC Universal are shutting him down. This is really a fan site for one of their least known programs and for some reason they feel threatened. I don’t know what to do, but blog. If anyone has a better idea, let me know it.

Cult-Like Lure of ‘Ana’ Attracts Anorexics - Yahoo! News

Filed under: Misc. — Kerry @ 4:51 am

OK. I know it’s a horrible disease and all, but when anorexics cult-up together is it still a malady? Or just weird?
I’m thinking of a killer new spy show where anorexic American women spy on terrorists by disguising themselves as starving third-world citizens. Think of the number of qualified auditions coming out of Hollywood.
It’s out there people. Take my idea and run with it.

Bad and worse…

Filed under: The Web — Kerry @ 6:10 pm

Anyone who has ever developed a website with me knows that I’m a stickler for navigation. This own site is a big step for me as I usually protest any iteration of navigation that does not begin on the left or top of the screen. My premise is that as much as people would like to talk about websites as brochures or art, they are really software for accessing information. And as software, if you leave conventional user interfaces, you loose the customer and create confusion. If you would like an example, just check out my latest entry into the best of the bad. The Corey Clarke official website.
Just please don’t ask me why I was there.
