OK…here’s another one.

Filed under: The Web — Kerry @ 12:43 pm

From time to time, my girlfriend, Laura, and I dedicate an entire weekend and make some of the tastiest tamales around. We get a lot of requests for the recipe and because it’s a bit involved, we just found it was easier to put it all online. Check it out at makingtamales.com. We gathered the recipe somewhere a couple of years ago, and it is so delicious we haven’t gone looking for another. Let us know what you think.

Because of my interest in adventure travel, I’ve decided to launch a new site, expeditionreview.com. Let me know what you think.

Writer’s Block

Filed under: The Web — Kerry @ 7:50 am

Ok. After almost 2 years of no posts, I am going to attempt to be better about contributing to this blogging exercise. I’ve been thinking about getting back into the swing of this for a week or so, but have successfully procrastinated each and every day. I have a desire to share ideas, receive feedback, and generally have fun with this. Alas, my best ideas always strike while I am away from my computer. This posting, while having no intellectual content, is an affirmative step in the right direction. If you run across this, and have a word of encouragement, it will be most appreciated.

Stephen Hawking

Filed under: The Web — Kerry @ 4:55 pm

Not long ago, a friend of mine made some reference to Stephen Hawking being dead. I was shocked, but, not wanting to seem unawares, I somewhat ignored the comment. Well, today I was elated to find that Dr. Hawking is not dead and even has this nifty website where we can keep track of his adventures.

Fairvue Central >> Bloggies >> Sixth Annual Weblog Awards

Filed under: The Web — Kerry @ 5:55 am

The nominees are in, and alas, I didn’t make the cut. Of course, I’m speaking of the Bloggies… the gold standard of weblog awards. Of course, maybe if I contributed more often, as has been suggested by a reader, I would have had a better chance.

Congratulations to all of those more diligent than I.

Now take a look at what I consider my best recent example of a marketing designer creating an awful user experience…Swatch! Try to shop for a watch. I dare you.

BlackBerry and Google Talk

Filed under: The Web — Kerry @ 6:59 am

Looks like Google’s chat software is making its move. Yahoo Finance reports BlackBerry to Support Google Messaging. Great tool, but now I have to convert all of my friends over to Google Talk. Will I help Google grab ten more users to make my life easier? Probably.

I hate it when that happens….

Filed under: The Web — Kerry @ 5:08 am

Recently I’ve started watching this Mad Money on CNBC with Jim Cramer. Really interesting investment show (if not a little disturbing). Jim runs around the stage ranting out sage stock advice while various sound and screen effects fire off.
The other day I watched a stock he heavily endorsed shoot up 15% at the bell the next day. Now I’m watching him closely, however, I’m not always in a position to catch the program.
No problem. A good guy at PFBlog.com captures the information that Jim spots every night and places it on his blog. Better yet, it’s all archived. So I’m able to take a walk down memory lane and evaluate some of the calls this guy has made in the past.
Wouldn’t you know it…I read this post this morning. CNBC and NBC Universal are shutting him down. This is really a fan site for one of their least known programs and for some reason they feel threatened. I don’t know what to do, but blog. If anyone has a better idea, let me know it.

Bad and worse…

Filed under: The Web — Kerry @ 6:10 pm

Anyone who has ever developed a website with me knows that I’m a stickler for navigation. This own site is a big step for me as I usually protest any iteration of navigation that does not begin on the left or top of the screen. My premise is that as much as people would like to talk about websites as brochures or art, they are really software for accessing information. And as software, if you leave conventional user interfaces, you loose the customer and create confusion. If you would like an example, just check out my latest entry into the best of the bad. The Corey Clarke official website.
Just please don’t ask me why I was there.
