Portland Trip – The Original

On August 2, 2009, in Misc., by Kerry

So, we’ve had a wonderful time in one of my favorite cities in the world. Weather was a little warm, but something that should be expected in August. Often, when planning to head back to Bend after a weekend in Portland, I scour the web looking for an interesting place to have brunch or lunch. Today, I ran across this little gem. The Original. An eclectic, strange, and wonderful selection of some of the most unique cuisine I have seen in recent history. Take a look at their All Day Menu and pay special attention to the Duck Liver in Funyuns. Any restaurant that takes Funyuns seriously is OK in my book. I haven’t quite decided what I will order there today, but I’m certainly leaning toward the cheddar cheese burger served on a glazed donut. That’s just the kind of thing that I can imagine would be delicious, however, I can only imagine the faces if I tried to serve it to guests in my home.

So, by when we got to The Original, we discovered that breakfast was being served until 1pm. Kind of a disappointment as I had my heart set on a glazed donut cheeseburger. I passed on the macaroni and cheese pancakes and went for the chicken-fried steak. Certainly not a traditional preparation, but it was quite tasty.
