Received this yesterday. Unfortunately, not going to be able to make it. I already know that letting Clark Jackson go is a horrible idea, and I can’t think of anything they could say that would make me feel any better about it :
“The Oregon Economic and Community Development Department, now known as “Business Oregon”, is hosting two public forums on Thursday, July 23 to discuss the agency’s plans for economic development in Central Oregon following the elimination of the local Business Development Officer position by the department. The 90-minute forums will be held at 7:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at the Hitchcock Auditorium on the campus of the Central Oregon Community College in Bend.
This is our chance to hold this agency accountable for the elimination of the Central Oregon Business Development Officer position and make an effort to have it reinstated at the next legislative e-board session. Please contact everyone you know so that we can fill both sessions.
I believe the key issues are:
1. Why eliminate a BDO in the only metropolitan area east of the Cascades?
2. Why at the same time create a new manager position of the Regional
Business Development Manager to oversea the BDO’s and a few other Economic Development (ED) professionals.
3. Now you tell us that we are better served after losing a full time
regional ED professional with that area now being covered part time by a person with a office in Eugene and another with an office in The Dalles?
4. Your new BDO alignment seems weighted toward serving the Portland Metro region leaving reduced or very little support for the other regions of the state.
5. How could your agency reduce ED support for a region that has the highest unemployment in the state?
Once again, thank you for taking part in this effort.”
